Africa Meetings and Events

I will be going on a tour from Cairo 26 August,2008. Would like to meet up with other VT members. Time and place once meeting established.

Will be in Cairo, Alexandria, and Aswan from October 20-25. Interested to meet and have coffee or tea? I will be staying in Cairo but will be touring other cities of Egypt. Please email me where to meet.

A small handfull of VTers and I are planning to get together for a few days in Marakesh prior to the 2009 VT Euromeet in Cascais, Portugal, and we thought it only fair (and fun!) to extend the invitation to everyone else. This is also a great opportunity to meet some of our Moroccan VT members who rarely get a chance to travel to the Euromeets because it's difficult for them to obtain visas.

Nothing is formalized as of now, but we plan on posting some suggested accommodations (in close proximity to each other), several meals together, and a day-trip or two. One of the bonuses in traveling as a group is that we should be able to get very good discounts on excursions.

One of the must-sees on my agenda is an excursion to the city of Ait-Ben-Haddou, where I fully plan on donning a traditional robe and headdress so I can play "Ed of Arabia," because this was where they filmed the famed "Lawrence" movie of the same name. We'll leave Morocco on the Thursday morning (May 28th) so we have plenty of time to meet up with the big VT gang in Portugal.
