Australia Meetings and Events

Rumours have been running wild about a VT meeting to be held in Darwin in 2008. Started at the recent Perth meeting, these rumours are now spreading far and wide. So I thought I should set the record straight by making this announcement "THERE WILL BE A VT MEETING HELD IN DARWIN OVER THE WEEKEND 23/25 MAY 2008".

For a number of brave souls there will be an 'adventure' trip over a 9 day period PRECEEDING the meeting. That trip is titled "SURVIVOR VT DARWIN". It won't be a 5 star, fully serviced, luxury trip, more in the safari style. There's a separate notice being put up for the "Survivor" trip, please check it out and you'll need to register your name separately for both if you intend to attend both.

Details have yet to be ironed out but just putting up this notice now so people can have a think, decide, and plan ahead. Later there'll also be a climate guide, but expect hot weather.

The meeting over the weekend will follow the format of meeting up on the Friday evening at a local pub, Saturday excursions, Saturday evening restaurant. Sunday people doing their own thing, or group thing if they wish. And Sunday night a 'last supper'.

Those involved in the "SURVIVOR VT DARWIN" excursion will have all weekend to brag to the others about their escapades (provided they've survived, of course ;O))

Gillian from the UK is in town and would love to meet up for a few drinks & vt goss so if you have nothing planned this Friday after work, then how about extending our usual warm welcome to Gillian. Hi everyone. HarShe (Harsha) is visiting Perth on a fleeting business trip from Melbourne and would like to meet up with us locals. So I thought we would put on the friendly Perth charm and give him a warm welcome down at our local waterhole - The Lucky Shag Pub on the water front opposite the Bell Tower.

Day is Sunday 24th August and time - any time after 4pm.

There are quite a few Brisbane VTers, so I thought it might be fun to have a get together so that we can put faces to the names. At this stage, I am thinking that somewhere pretty central might be a good idea, so here are a few suggestions that we can maybe consider and vote on. Chez Laila at Southbank, The Deck overlooking the river at Merthyr Bowls Club at New Farm or maybe the Gardens Cafe in the city. Can anyone suggest any more suitable places? I lean more towards a place that has a nice outlook, supplies liquor, coffee and food all as options for those who wish to partake of one or all of them. Have a think about it and let's all make an effort to get there if possible and of course it goes without saying that out of towners or indeed folk from ouside of Australia will also be most welcome. In fact, it would be really great to have some visitors along to make the conversation even more interesting. Please indicate your interest ASAP so that I can start organising bookings etc. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I look forward to hearing from as many of you as possible. UPDATE: One member has suggested a barbecue in New farm Park which is easily accessibly by City Cat. I really like this idea as it will be far more relaxed and if there are quite a few people we can easily move around and chat. If there are no objections, we will probably go with this idea. If you wish to come but don't like the BBQ idea, please contact me ASAP.

UPDATE UPDATE: New Farm Park it is. 1pm Sunday January 18,2009. Bring your own meat and drinks and maybe a small salad, sweet or nibblies to share. I will advise everyone closer to time of the exact location of the meet.
