Greyhound Racing - (Part of VT Treasure Hunt Meet)
Posted: Jul. 02, 2009

As part of the VT treasure hunt meeting I have organised a friday night at the Wimbledon Greyhound Racing Track.

Best of all is free admission, racecard and a drink voucher just by downloading and printing and completing this voucher http://s3.static.vouchercodes.co.uk/pdf/wimbledonstadium_jul09.pdf

We will meet just outside Wimbledon tube station side exit by the Wimbledon shopping complex at btw 6.30 - 6.45pm. We will then catch a taxi or a bus to the stadium. The turnstiles open at 6.30pm and the first race starts at 7.30pm.
For those driving there is a large free car park. if you prefer to go straight there you can get the train to Haydens Road (First Capital Connect)

Please sign up if you fancy a flutter on these superb racing dogs, even if you can't join us for the treasure hunt, it is a great night out. The minimum bet is GBP1 so a cheap night out as well.

Treasure hunt & picnic in London
Posted: Jan. 30, 2009

I am arranging the first ever VT Treasure hunt which will give you an opportunity to discover London in a whole new way whilst being cost effective.

I have devised 3 separate areas of this great city to explore with plenty of photo opportunities! All this will cost you is the price of a travelcard, lunch in your teams & your picnic dinner and perhaps a bottle or 2 of vino which will be picked up by yourselves en-route to the park. I have a supply of paper plates, plastic goblets & a bottle opener Londoners please bring picnic blankets.

Here is the basic program

Friday night (an optional event for those wanting to join in - please sign separate meeting page 17/07/2009) will take place at Wimbledon dog stadium - greyhound racing is a very traditional London sport. Cheap entry and if you decide to try your hand at gambling the bets can be as little as 50p. Be there and watch those doggies chase that rabbit! http://www.lovethedogs.co.uk/wimbledon/theexperience.aspx

Saturday will be a treasure hunt involving teams of vt'ers let loose in London finding clues. The VT comittee have promised sponsered prizes for the winning team

The day will end with all attendees relaxing and socialising in London's fantastic Hyde park - at this time of year London is noted to have long balmy summer evenings so games (footie, rounders, board games perhaps), pedaloes / row boats etc can be organised. There will be plenty of places to pick your picnic up en route.

Do sign up to give me an indication of who is keen the more, the merrier (incl + 1's).
Please contact me if you need any ideas of accomodation I have a list of reasonable accomodation in university halls of residence during this time.

Meeting place for saturday will be Costa Coffee Shop, The Grand Building, inside Waterstones Book Shop, Opposite Trafalgar Square WC2N 5EJ, Cnr Northumberland Avenue at 10.30 for 10.45.http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=WC2N+5EJ&countryCode=GB#map=51.50774,-0.12615|16|4&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:51.50753:-0.12615:16|WC2N%205EJ|WC2N%205EJ

If you wish to join us later at the picnic in hyde park (approx 4pm) we will be on the green between the Serpentine boat house and the Educational Look out centre / Rangers Lodge.

Afternoon Tea with an Appleseed
Posted: Jul. 18, 2009

Hey guys!

Shirene (Appleseed81) is breaking the mould and coming "Oop North" and seeing the real England and not just our capital. So let's get a group of us together and have some 'delightful' Afternoon Tea with her?!!

With a stop in York, there is only one answer - Bettys!!!!
So I suggest we meet at 3:45pm just outside Bettys so that we can be all proper and have tea at 4:00pm.

Bettys is located at 6-8 St. Helen's Square, York, YO1 8QP

VT Camping meet - North Wales
Posted: Jul. 19, 2009

Anyone fancy a VT Camping meet in Bala, North Wales on the 21st - 23rd August? The campsite is situated in LLanuwchllyn which is a mile from the town of Bala, right in the heart of the Snowdonia National park & close the many Castles North Wales has to offer.

I've ordered the sunshine & warm weather in advance so fun & laughter around the camp fire, barbeques & general merriment are on the agenda.

The campsite can be found at;

London in the autumn
Posted: Jul. 23, 2009

London is at its best in early November and a photographers delight. The autumn colours should be quite vivid and I prpose we take in Greenwich, Hampstead and Kew over the two days of the weekend. I am proposing a late morning meet Saturday and then Greenwich and then back in to London for photography at dusk around Tower Bridge which is very scenic at dusk as the lights go on.
Sunday and a stroll around scenic Hampstead and part of the Heath in the morning and then the North London line to Kew in the afternoon.
Even if you do not have any interest in photography the walks will be interesting. If the weather is bad we will have to rethink things on the day. Londoners can of course just come for one of the two days or both.

If anyone would like to come at short notice - meet at London Bridge mainline station near the main departure board on the main concourse on the Saturday 10.45 - 11.00.
Sunday - 10.30 at McDonalds in Hampstead - turn left from the tube station and the restaurant is on the left.

London Meetup - November 21/22
Posted: Oct. 31, 2009

Hey,

I'll be in London on November 21st and 22nd - anyone want to meet up? It would be cool to meet some VTers again (it's been awhile since I've been active), whether it be just for a coffee/meal/drinks or wander around. This doesn't have to be a proper meetup - I'm willing to meet different people at different times and/or on either day. There's a forum posting as well for a discussion.

I'll be arriving in the afternoon on the Saturday and leaving on Monday morning.

Let me know if you are interested!

Cheers, Brandon

3rd Annual Manchester Christmas Markets Meet
Posted: Feb. 22, 2009

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone - either again or to meet you - at this year's Christmas Markets Meet. Many of us will be staying at the Piccadilly Gardens Hotel, so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't bump into each other first.

As usual, we will meet outside the Starbucks on the corner of Princess and Clarence Streets at 11:00am. Here I will give you maps with the Christmas Markets Meet route marked on them and tell you where our 're-gathering' points will be. As always, you are welcome to (attempt to) stay as a group or wander off to the stalls that take your pleasure; the 're-gathering' points enable you to then re-join the group if you wish.

I am also pleased to say that, after two years of failure, I have managed to make reservations for our group at The Old Wellington (http://www.classicpubs.co.uk/theoldwellingtonmanchester/). We dine there at 4:00pm - so, if you get totally and utterly detached from the group, that's where to be - but more on that when we hook up on the day. Whilst the booking is already made, numbers will be finalised close to the day, so feel free to jump on board with this meet!!

For those staying on, we will wander the streets of Manchester, taking in the pubs of the Northern Quarter - hopefully, without the metal detectors and drug dog police visits of last year!!

Looking forward to seeing you all in November!
